June 30th 2013: Sightseeing Before and After Doing Food Truck Stuff

This morning, I woke up early to do some sightseeing before heading to do food truck stuff. I decided to get some breakfast first in the Allston area of Boston, settling on @Union, a nice cafe which was open at this time of morning.

After looking at the menu, I decided to get the Banana Avocado Smoothie and the Coconut French Toast (with grilled pineapple, coconut flakes and powdered sugar)

The smoothie was really hearty and I could only finish half of it, while the french toast awed me with its presentation and tastiness, as I am not really a fan of shredded coconut, but I finished it all this time. A definite recommend from me for this place.

From here, I headed to the South Boston area to doing some sightseeing there,

My last destination in the morning was Carson Beach, which was a much better beach than Savin Hill Beach, which I visited yesterday. Pictures I took here before heading off to do food truck stuff follow.

After dealing with food truck stuff, I had to leave a little early to attend a friend's birthday party at Skyzone, the trampoline park in Everett which I have been to before. As it was the last time I was here, I had lots of fun playing dodgeball for an hour, although it was pretty intense and tiring.

After our time was up, my friend decided it was still too early for dinner, so we bid each other farewell, and I decided to head to the town of Melrose nearby to continue my sightseeing there and have dinner as well, passing by the Winslow Condominiums at 14 Locust Street in Everett along the way.

I decided to grab dinner first, heading to Spice of Melrose, a decent Thai restaurant in downtown Melrose, where I had a groupon to use.

After looking at the menu, I decided to get the Salmon Salmon Roll (crispy rolls filled with salmon fillet and spinach, served with oriental style cream sauce) for an appetizer, the Tom Ka Ta Lay (Spicy coconut soup with fresh selected seafood, mushroom, scallion) for soup, the Three Taste Mango Fish (pair of crispy haddock fillet and homemade spiced mango sauce) and the Chiangmai Noodle (Yellow curry with chicken and shrimp served with egg noodle, crush peanut, and fried shallot). The starters came out in the form of a small sweet steamed bun, which was pretty interesting, and I dipped it with the sauces from my food.

The soup was marvelous, the sweet coconut taste blending well with a tinge of tanginess to complete the dish which I lapped up hungrily.

The salmon was a little dry, but thankfully the sauce that went with it made it alright.

The fish was crispy yet fresh and cooked just right, going well with the pineapple-mango sauce,

while there was more curry goodness with the noodles.

A definite recommend if you are ever in town.

After dinner, I spent the rest of the day taking pictures of various places in Melrose.

With the sun having set for good, I headed home for the day, satisfied with my evening of sightseeing in Melrose.

May 1st 2013: Getting Popeye's for the First Time in Everett

Tonight after work, I had to do food truck stuff, and after a long night at an event at the Grandten Distillery in South Boston, I decided to take the opportunity to buy some food from a fast food place in Everett, Popeye's, which is much like KFC, just with less options in my opinion. I decided to go with the 8 pc Spicy Chicken Family Meal, coming with 4 biscuits and Mashed Potatoes, along with an Apple Pie on the side.

Not too bad, I have to say, especially the mashed potatoes which had cajun spices.

April 19th 2013: Sightseeing During the Boston Lockdown

This morning, as I headed into the Boston area, I heard that the city and the towns around it were under lockdown due to the marathon bombing suspects being at large in Watertown. As a result, I decided to explore the towns north of the lockdown area instead, starting with Everett,

Next, I decided to do a short hike up Waitt's Mount in Malden. Unfortunately, this place/park is still under construction, but I still managed to get to the top and see the great views from there. I'm definitely coming back with the construction of the park is completed.

After enjoying the views, I decided to head to the Park at River's Edge in Medford for a stroll in the park. Flowers were blooming and I took several pictures of them. Pictures of the Mystic River from here follow.

From Medford, I headed into the town of Melrose, which I have never visited before except during my hike in the Middlesex Fells Reservation several months back. I decided to go for my first real hike in a long while at Pine Banks Park.

After parking in the playing fields area, the path I took here is shown below in pink.

I first headed up to the top of the first supposed viewpoint, which unfortunately was obscured totally by trees. I then went down to the pond below, where a California Firefly landed on my jacket.

From here, I headed to the other viewpoint. This time, the views, especially of Boston in the distance, were pretty good.

After climbing back down, it was time to head to Tewksbury for lunch at Main Street Pizza, passing by a few places in town along the way.

From here, I got the Spicy Fries, the All Meat Pizza (Pizza Sauce, Cheese, Sausage, Hamburger, Bacon, Pepperoni) and the Florentine Pizza (Cheese, Alfredo Sauce, Chicken, Broccoli). The Florentine was really bland, while the fries were not spicy in the least bit, and the meat lovers was just average. Not a good experience at all.

Not satisfied at all with my meal, I decided to head to the Sugar Coated Bakery in Dracut to grab some dessert, where I had $50 to spend. It ended up with me getting almost all the cakes in the store, which had really nicely designed birthday cakes as well.

I have to say the desserts were pretty original, and the Tiramisu Jar looked cute as well. Not a bad place to have dessert at at all.

After grabbing dessert, I headed into Lowell to do some sightseeing there. I visited the campus of UMass Lowell, which did not have many interesting buildings,

At this point, I felt it was too late to proceed further, so I decided to head to dinner back in Tewksbury at Angelina's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, a pretty upscale place, another Groupon in hand.

For my discounted meal, I decided to get the Scallop Abruzzi (pan seared scallops on a bed of fresh spinach drizzled with balsamic reduction, topped with shaved parmigiana) and the Creamy Shrimp Bruschetta (toasted bruschetta topped with shrimp, fresh diced tomato, basil, spinach finish with a cream sauce) for appetizers, the Scrod alla Vito (panko breadcrumbs pan-fried with fresh tomatoes, baby spinach in a garlic cream sauce. Served over linguini) for my main dish, and Profiteroles for dessert.

Not only were the appetizers delicious, the scrod was also fresh, tasty and delectable, going well with the cream sauce. The profiteroles were good as well. One of the few restaurants in Tewksbury I would recommend.

With that, I spent my day when Boston was under lockdown well. Thankfully,  they caught the guy soon after the lockdown was lifted. Boston Strong!!
